Location: Christies, South Kensington

Now in its tenth year, Christie’s annual Ski Sale is one of the most popular events on the auction house’s calendar. Indeed, this unique occasion has practically become a local institution. With over 350 lots, the sale will offer a wide array of original posters that would bring a witty touch of nostalgia to any interior.
The posters date largely from the 1920s and 1930s, harking back to the beginning of mass ski tourism. As winter sports became a viable holiday option during the inter-war years, so the railway and ski resort companies commissioned some of the finest artists of the day to create posters urging holiday makers to visit dazzling resorts all over the world. Highlights already confirmed for this year’s sale include a brilliant selection by acclaimed poster artist Roger Broders, such as Ice Hockey in Chamonix, 1930 (estimate: £2,500- 3,500), Sports d’Hiver dans les Vosges (estimate: £2,000-3,000), and Les Sports d’Hiver, St Pierre de Chartreuse (estimate: £2,500-3,500). There will also be a more affordable selection available with estimates around £500.
